Soldering Class

For those who have been following the thread here, the club is planning to host a soldering and kit-building workshop. The goals are to help our members improve their soldering skills, learn the tips and tricks involved in kit building, and to have some fun.

Incidentally, when you have completed the workshop, you will have a functioning CW transceiver! Even if you are not a CW operator, you will enjoy listening to the signals on a radio that you build yourself.

There will be a cost involved in this endeavor. The kit is quite reasonably priced at $30. You can see what it looks like at http://smallwonderlabs.com/Rockmite.htm. In addition, you will need some tools. You probably have some of the tools already, but even if you had to go to Radio Shack and buy them all brand new, it would probably be around $50. For those who need it, we will probably be able to loan some tools as well.

If you are interested in participating in this club project, you need to let me know. Once we see how many people want to sign up, we will collect the money for the kits and get them on order. There is a delay of several weeks in getting the kits, so I would like to get the ball rolling soon.

One other challenge is to find a place to hold the workshop. Any of our club officers or other members have an idea?

Thanks and 73,

John, WA6L
