El Cajon FD Open House

El Cajon Fire Station #6 Open House
Location: 100 E. Lexington Ave in El Cajon
We'll be setting up our booth at the Fire Station which will include 2 meters as well as HF with antenna's high atop our tower trailer and will be working our station call: WA6BGS WAMO #000. Remember all of those wooden Morse Code key kits we assembled at the April and May meetings in 2008? Well, we'll be handing them out to kids, helping them put the keys together and listening to them trying their hand at sending Morse Code. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce the public to Amateur Radio…come and be a part of it.

We'll head out to the Parade Marshalling area around 8:30 am where we add the banners, fringe, garland, etc. to the float. The Parade starts at 10:00 am. Volunteer Opportunities

We are always busy, Please Volunteer and Volunteer often.

Community Support: We are an ARRL supported Club and a member of the San Diego County Amateur Radio Council (SANDARC). We support the California Division of Forestry; (“CAL Fire” as it’s now known) on “Red Flag Patrols” where we go into the back country when extreme fire danger is present to watch for fire hazards (you may have read articles about the “Red Flag Patrols” in the August and November 2008 editions of “QST” magazine). Many of our members are also members of ARES and RACES, support the El Cajon Fire Department EOC and CAL Fire at the San Diego EOC. We provide Amateur Radio Classes to help you “get your license” or “upgrade” to a higher class license, and a good number of our members are certified “VE’s” (Volunteer Examiners) for Amateur Radio License Testing. Our Members participate in and are on call to support any function where Amateur Radio Communications might be needed.

Club Activities: Our Club is pretty “radioactive” and we participate annually in events like:
• San Dieguito Half Marathon (providing communications)
• Pacific Crest Trail Run (providing communications)
• 100 mile Endurance Run (providing communications)
• HAM Radio Round-up (when a suitable location is found for it)
• San Diego County Fair (we staff the SANDARC booth on the first weekend of the Fair and talk to the public about Amateur Radio)
• Kids Best at the Fair (where we introduce kids and their families to HAM Radio)
• Field Day
• Annual Club Picnic
• El Cajon Fire Department “Open House” (where we set up HF and VHF stations and introduce the community to HAM Radio by encouraging kids and adults stopping by our booth to “get on the air”)
• First Methodist Church of El Cajon Fall Festival (where we set up HF and VHF stations and introduce the community to HAM Radio by encouraging both kids and adults stopping by our booth to “get on the air”)
• Home Brew Contest at our November Meeting (categories include: Novice, Advanced, Antenna and Kit)
• El Cajon’s “Mother Goose Parade”
• Annual Christmas Party

Silent Auction Rules

• Auctioneer announces that He/She is holding a silent auction. He/She also posts what the item being bid on is and an optional minimum bid i.e. $20.00.

• Everyone that is participating in the auction privately writes down their WAMO number, Call sign , Name, and their Bid on the item. Then Hands it to the Auctioneer. The Auctioneer will then time code the bid and place it in the Silent Auction Box.

• Everyone is entitled to no more than (2) two bids per item. Only the first two bids from any participant will be valid. All bids must be deposited in the Silent Auction Box no latter than 10 minutes into the first meeting break. The bids are compared by the auctioneer and the highest bid is the winner. If there is more than one winning bid amount, than the lowest time code is the winner.

• The winner will be announced when we resume after break. Cash or check (payable to A.R.C.E.C.) must be paid in full prior to the end of the meeting the day of the Silent Auction. Auctioneer will then hand item(s) to the winner.

The auctioneer posts ONLY the person who won, the price, and time stamp if needed - so everyone knows that no scamming is involved.
